Paula Hallam Contemporary Painter
I spent my formative years in rural Lincolnshire, surrounded by vast skies, weather and solitude. The visual language I use is deeply influenced by my youth, a love of dramatic landscapes and their sense of place.
Travel is an essential part of my practice, so I can spend time in many of Britain’s remote destinations to paint & draw in the open air. Locations of special significance are: Norfolk, Pembrokeshire, the Malvern Hills & Derbyshire.
I am interested in the use of art as a vehicle for expressing emotions & how the line between the pictorial and abstract can be blurred, creating a new exciting world of colour that escapes from the weight of modernity and the mundane. Working mainly with acrylics, I construct complex layers of translucent paint to arrive at a desired destination.
I studied for my B.A (Hons) at Coventry School of Art & gained a PG Cert in Fine Arts Practice from the University of Derby. I have also been a guest Artist at the Kunstlerhaus Schloss Balmoral in Germany, Stiwdio Maelor in North Wales & have had many exhibitions here in the UK. I'm currently working on new works for future exhibitions.
